Already the Olympics have gotten off to an exciting start with many interesting tales of doping, shady courses and spills and falls. Time to get out the wine to calm our nerves!
So here are a few types of wine to stock up on in the next couple of days as the kiwis look to take some medals home from the exciting 2016 Rio Olympics.
Athletics & Rosé
In the big arena there is kiwi talent galore from running to shot put – the diversity and prowess is impressive.
Best to get out a nice bottle of Rosé to make the most of the surroundings and the different sports. From quick and nimble to powerful with structure, a Rosé can match any of these sports.
Equestrian Eventing & Sauvignon Blanc
This New Zealand team is known for its toughness and is no foreigner to the medal stands.
Time to pick up the pace for the final show jumping round so best to get out a quintessential Sauvignon Blanc. Typically kiwi, persistent, aromatic, elegant yet is able to be a total showstopper!
Rugby & Cabernet Merlot
The All Black Sevens are some of New Zealand’s finest homegrown talent plus the nation has just a slight addiction to the sport.
This deserves a Cabernet Merlot, showing off all the power and stamina, the persistence, the fight that can be found from the heart.
Rowing & Chardonnay
The kiwis know what they are doing out there and dominate this sport. Smooth and elegant they cut through the water like a knife with power and grace.
This deserves a nice complex Chardonnay, perfectly balanced with a bit of edge to get you through the fast paced action.
Sailing & Bubbles
From the City of Sails to the base of Christo, it’s definitely time to break out the bubbly for this occasion.
With more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world, we should celebrate our great affinity with the ocean, the wind in our hair and the momentous occasion of the Olympics.
