Always looking for new and interesting wines, I decided to stop by at Great Little Vineyards, a specialty wine store in Newmarket, and I was intrigued by this bottle of Central Otago Tempranillo by Rock Ferry Wines.
Not a common grape to be found in New Zealand, I am a big fan of those in Spain so was interested to see what our home turf had to offer.
On top of that, it is a small family winery, is made with organic grapes from Bendigo in Central Otago, so it was bound to be interesting. Beautiful label on top of it sealed the deal.
So what does this wine offer?
Rock Ferry Trig Hill Tempranillo ’13
Trig Hill, Bendigo, Central Otago
Intricately delicate nuances dance with lovely berry aromas, enticing, sweet, spicy but understated in the way that makes it confident. This carries through with a swagger full of decadent chocolate, black berry and licorice that likes to kick up its heels with a bit of black pepper.
Always an engaging dinner companion full of worldly stories and feisty anecdotes.
