Sip: The Pruner’s Reward Sauvignon Blanc ’13

Today’s savvy sip comes from a small family producer in North Canterbury, Bellbird Spring.

In 2002 the Porter family returned to New Zealand after many years overseas. They decided to make their home in the beautiful Waipara Valley with the family of three generations all living in homes on the vineyards. They focus on creating limited quantities of traditionally crafted single-vineyard wines of fine aroma and texture.

Named after the hard work it takes to prune the vines when they are dormant in the cold winter, this is a true labour of love. Made by Guy Porter for his winery Bellbird Spring, this fresh crisp Sauvignon Blanc was made to be more modern and fruit forward, to really express this very distinctive grape variety.

A bright big juicy golden delicious apple crushed with some pineapple and grapefruit. This big burst of aromas jumps in with a crisp flavours mingled with some light green pepper, lime and melon with a zing-a-zing that makes it refreshing and bright, something that could definitely lighten up your day!
