As the days are often still summery like, it’s time to take advantage of all the beautiful white wines that may be in your cellar before you head into the winter reds.
Coopers Creek, located near Auckland in Kumeu, has many different and interesting wines and this one, from their Select Vineyards range, offers an interesting and full flavoured take on the very popular Pinot Gris variety.
From a small and older vineyard in the Brancott Valley in Marlborough, they have created this aromatic wine, although “The Pointer” designation is somewhat mysterious.
Coopers Creek The Pointer Pinot Gris 2014
Lush pear but with some interesting minerality that makes it flamboyant yet not as flabby as many Pinot Gris’ that you are often accustomed to. Rich, round and textured, it does carry some residual sugar which is blended into the mosaic of flavours and the long finish of fruit and spice that lingers.
This wine is not for those that want a bone dry experience but it is an amazing wine to have with some luscious fresh spring rolls and a spicy pad thai. Bring on that indian summer!
