Remember our friends Sara and Willy from the Wine Zealand Project?
The French couple continues to explore this beautiful country and its wine regions and they recently spent a few weeks in one of the sunniest parts of the South Island: Nelson wine country.
They’ve been busy wining & dining and working at different estates and are kindly sharing their must-visit wineries and favourite things to do in the Nelson region with us today.
Must-Visit Wineries
Come and sip a glass of their Sauvignon Blanc Clays & Gravels in front of an outstanding view over the surrounding mountains.
Michael Glover, the winemaker, captures the best of the place to present you a little taste of Nelson’s “terroir”. And we can tell you: it’s delicious!
Mahana Estates, 243 Old Coach Rd, Upper Moutere
Tim & Judy Finn are wine pioneers in the Nelson region. With the help of Todd Stevens, their winemaker, they create (amongst others) an amazing chardonnay.
You can feel their passion around the place and that is delightful!
Neudorf Vineyards, 138 Neudorf Road, RD2 Upper Moutere
Patrick Stowe, owner and winemaker, originally comes from another very interesting wine world region, California. His estate is very welcoming and you can taste his wines just a few meters away from the vines that produced them.
Even during winter you can still sip your favourite drop in the Rimu Bar, located at Mapua Wharf.
Rimu Grove, Bronte Road East, RD1, Upper Moutere
Favourite Things To Do
It’s THE oldest pub in New Zealand! Come sip a glass of wine or beer from their special selection sourced all within a 10km radius.
Cosy-up on one their couches or play pool, either way, simply enjoy yourself!
The Moutere Inn, 1406 Moutere Highway, RD 2 Upper Moutere
It’s the second largest national park in New Zealand, so put your hiking boots on – there are so many beautiful tracks to do!
It’s THE place to spend a sunny Sunday!
Restaurants, pubs, galleries, wine bars… everything is done really well and lets you appreciate the moment … enjoy!
